Pointe-Claire (Québec) — September 1, 2022 — The Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation’s inaugural Dragon Boat Race took place on Saturday, August 27 in Lachine, and raised over $40,000 for the hospital’s oncology clinic.
Lisa-Marie Fitzwilliam, assistant head nurse of Lakeshore’s Oncology Department, participated in the event. “We see these patients day-in and day-out. Sometimes they spend entire days or entire weeks with us. To welcome them into an environment that can be adapted to improve the quality of that experience that’s already difficult on our patients and their families, that little something extra that can make it slightly easier, that’s our goal.”
Nathalie Kamel, Managing Director of the Foundation, is thrilled by the success of this inaugural event. “Over $40,000 raised for a first-time event is very exciting. It shows us that people want to support their local hospital and that participants enjoy competing in a physical activity. The team-building and camaraderie we witnessed were inspirational, and we look forward to growing this event next year.”
