5th Annual Dragon Boat Race raises $212,356 for our Oncology Clinic!

On Saturday, August 22, the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation brought our community together for the 5th Annual Dragon Boat Race in Lachine, and what a day it was! With 19 boats and over 400 paddlers, this year’s event brought even more energy, excitement and team spirit to the water, while raising an incredible $212,356 in support of the Hospital’s Oncology Clinic.

From the first race to the final finish, the waterfront was buzzing with excitement. Teams battled it out on the water, while friends, family and supporters cheered from the sidelines. Between races, participants enjoyed a traditional lion dance, bringing luck and good fortune to the teams and the races. The event created a celebration that was about much more than competition – it was about coming together for a cause that touches so many in our community.

A particularly meaningful moment of the day was the flower ceremony, offering an opportunity to honour and remember loved ones affected by cancer. Along with a heartfelt testimonial, the ceremony was a powerful reminder of why we were all there: to help make a difference for patients and families receiving care at the Lakeshore General Hospital.

And, of course, there were some serious bragging rights on the line! Congratulations to all of this year’s teams, with special recognition to our top finishers:

A special shout-out also goes to Oar We There Yet, whose pirate costumes helped bring home the prize for the Best Dressed Team!

Whether they were paddling, cheering, fundraising or volunteering, everyone played a part in making this year’s Dragon Boat Race such a success. We are incredibly grateful to our paddlers, donors, sponsors, volunteers and staff for showing up, giving back and helping us move closer to better care for our community.
