The Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation’s Duck Flies South for his Retirement

Pointe-Claire (Québec) – March 12, 2019 – After 21 years of service at the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation (LGHF), famous Duck-Fest (previously Duck Race) mascot Lakeshore Louis, is heading for a sunny retirement, far away from winter’s bitter cold. The LGHF decided close this colourful chapter of its history since the lottery associated with the duck, who raised near 1.5 million dollars during his career, was no longer reaching its goals. By way of farewell on the 12th of March, 2019, Lakeshore Louis toured the Hospital, collecting donations, photos and thank yous, and celebrated his retirement at the LGHF office, surrounded by employees and volunteers.

The celebration gave the LGHF the opportunity to express its deepest gratitude to Bill Wexler, the volunteer behind the mascot, who gave life to the character for many years, as well as to his wife Ardeth.  Several volunteers who participated in the event every year were happy to share stories over a delicious cake, in festive yet nostalgic atmosphere.

The LGHF invites anyone interested in adopting one or a few iconic rubber duckies to pass by their office in the main entrance of the Lakeshore General Hospital, before the end of April.  After which, all the ducks will be given to another charitable organization and recycled.

A wind of change is now being felt at the LGHF as they are preparing a brand new exciting lottery, which will be launched this spring in collaboration with Air Canada Rouge and TWMG Inc.

Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation Nears Capital Campaign Goal

Pointe-Claire (Québec) – November 27, 2017 – The Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation (LGHF) is proud to announce that after the first year of its 2016-2018 Life can change in an instant Capital Campaign, it has raised $7.1 million, or 89% of its $ 8 million goal, thanks to the generosity of many donors. This Capital Campaign’s objective is to expand, modernize and improve infrastructures and equipment in three priority areas, including the Cardiac and Intensive  Care Units as well as the Mental Health and Geriatric Units of the Lakeshore General Hospital (LGH).

“Over and above our Annual Campaign, which aims to raise the funds to meet the timely and functional needs of the LGH, we have embarked on a major two-year Capital Campaign to provide our community with state-of-the-art human and compassionate care, which we are so fortunate to provide, close to home, at the LGH, ” says Heather Holmes, Managing Director of the LGHF.”  The population served by the LGH has increased five-fold since it opened in 1965, going from 60,000 to close to 300,000. Our community is aging and the LGH is now dealing with increasingly complex medical and psychosocial conditions. We want to ensure that the care being given at our hospital meets the highest standards, when our loved ones, our friends and our community need it the most,” adds Heather Holmes.

The three priority sectors :

Develop and integrate the Cardiac and Intensive Care Units:

Phase 1: Includes the addition of four new specialized Intensive Care rooms, for a total of 15 rooms increasing the admission capacity to an additional 270 patients per year;

Phase 2: Includes the overhaul of the 11 existing ICU rooms, the reconfiguration and integration of the 8 Cardiology beds and the concentration of vital care expertise into one multifunctional efficient location.

Relocation and Reconfiguration of the Mental Health Unit

Move the unit into a wider and brighter setting, while increasing the number of single occupancy rooms, reducing overcrowding and providing patients with greater privacy, dedicated spaces and creating a therapeutic environment conducive to rehabilitation and social reintegration of patients.

Improve and expand the Geriatric Care Unit

Provide best practice care through a holistic approach, including specialized furniture, single rooms, isolation rooms to contain infections, bathrooms with wheelchair and specialized equipment access, improved common areas and therapeutic socialization zones to help our seniors return home as quickly as possible.

Outstanding success for the 17th edition of the Lakeshore Ball – The Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation raised $500,000

Pointe-Claire (Québec) – November 14, 2017 – The Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation (LGHF) is pleased to announce that it has reached its goal by raising $500,000 at the 17th annual Lakeshore Ball, which took place on Saturday, November 11th at the Montreal Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel. Three exceptional women, whose values coincide with those of the Foundation, supported the Ball as Honorary Presidents, namely Lyne Giroux of Aqua Spa Lyne Giroux, Monique Mardinian of Encore Travel and Sandra Hudon of Cascades PRO. The Mirella and Lino Saputo Foundation held the Gold Sponsorship title, and was extremely generous by donating an extra $ 21,000 at the final hour to help the Foundation achieve its goal. The funds raised during this prestigious event, MC’d by The Beat 92.5 radio host Shaun McMahon, will serve to enhance the quality of health care for the West Island community.

Managing Director Heather Holmes and LGHF Board Co-Chairs, David Cescon and Dr. Fiore Lalla, welcomed over 350 guests, including some of the most influential and well-known figures in the community. In addition to the sumptuous decorations inspired by the theme of the Enchanted Forest, guests enjoyed cocktails, champagne, a five-course gourmet dinner, open bar, performances and dancing to the sound of the band Electrik. “I am once again very touched by the generosity of our community. An event like this could not have been so successful without the participation and commitment of our many collaborators, who care about our community hospital, and I want to thank them all,” says Heather Holmes.

In addition to the Honorary Presidents and the Mirella and Lino Saputo Foundation, several West Island businesses supported the Lakeshore Ball as Co-Presidents of the Ball, including: Desjardins, Enterprise Holdings, F.J. Machine Shop, Réseau Sélection, Roxboro Excavation, UniGear and West Island Roofing.
