Je m\u2019appelle Indrajit Mistry et j\u2019ai 75 ans. J\u2019ai de nombreux probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9, notamment une insuffisance r\u00e9nale et du diab\u00e8te. Entre 2013 et 2016, j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 hospitalis\u00e9 42 fois ! <\/strong><\/span> L\u2019H\u00f4pital g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du Lakeshore a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u00e0 pour moi, et m\u2019a m\u00eame sauv\u00e9 la vie.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

En septembre 2016, j\u2019\u00e9tais au Fairview et j\u2019ai perdu connaissance. Lorsque j\u2019ai ouvert les yeux, je me trouvais \u00e0 l\u2019unit\u00e9 de soins intensifs du Lakeshore. Mon c\u0153ur avait cess\u00e9 de battre pendant plus de 10 minutes \u2013 j\u2019\u00e9tais cliniquement mort, mais l\u2019\u00e9quipe a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 me r\u00e9animer avec la RCP. J\u2019ai pass\u00e9 quatre jours dans le coma et suis demeur\u00e9 aux soins intensifs pendant 4 \u00bd mois.<\/p>\n

J\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 consulter la Dre Iqbal en 2011 pour des probl\u00e8mes r\u00e9naux, mais les m\u00e9dicaments que je prenais n\u2019\u00e9taient plus assez efficaces et mes reins ne fonctionnaient qu\u2019\u00e0 10 %. Elle m\u2019a tout de suite fait commencer une h\u00e9modialyse, qui est un traitement qui consiste \u00e0 filtrer les d\u00e9chets et l\u2019eau du sang, comme le font les reins lorsqu\u2019ils sont en bonne sant\u00e9. Pendant l\u2019h\u00e9modialyse, le sang passe par un filtre qui fonctionne comme un rein artificiel. Il est pomp\u00e9 \u00e0 travers le filtre et revient dans le corps, d\u00e9barrass\u00e9 de tout le liquide exc\u00e9dentaire.<\/p>\n

L\u2019H\u00e9modialyse<\/h4>\n

Lorsque j\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 l\u2019h\u00e9modialyse, je prenais 42 pilules par jour et je me sentais tr\u00e8s mal. Apr\u00e8s les trois premiers mois de traitement, ma dose quotidienne est descendue \u00e0 19 pilules par jour, et aujourd\u2019hui je me sens beaucoup mieux.<\/p>\n

Je dois vraiment \u00eatre l\u00e0 \u00e0 chaque traitement, sinon mes niveaux de toxines et de liquide s\u2019accumulent, ce qui est dangereux et inconfortable. Si je saute plus de deux traitements cons\u00e9cutifs, mon corps devient tr\u00e8s gonfl\u00e9, surtout mes mains et mes jambes, je me sens tr\u00e8s lourds et mon visage ressemble \u00e0 un ballon. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00e9modialyse, je me sens beaucoup mieux, mais cela ne gu\u00e9rit pas l\u2019insuffisance r\u00e9nale.<\/p>\n

Depuis 2017, je viens \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du Lakeshore trois fois par semaine pour une h\u00e9modialyse. Chaque traitement dure 4 heures, et se termine par un examen de suivi de 20-25 minutes. Je viens en bus en transport adapt\u00e9, donc j\u2019arrive environ deux heures avant chaque traitement. Je passe environ 20 heures par semaine \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital, alors je peux affirmer que l\u2019H\u00f4pital g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du Lakeshore est devenu une grande partie de ma vie !<\/p>\n

Ma famille \u00e9largie de l\u2019H\u00f4pital<\/h4>\n

\"\"Quand on passe autant de temps \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital, on devient tr\u00e8s proche des gens qui y travaillent. De plus, j\u2019aime parler aux gens dans la salle d\u2019attente ; cela me permet de me sentir en lien avec la communaut\u00e9. Ma voisine m\u2019accompagne souvent. Elle a aussi des probl\u00e8mes de rein mais n\u2019a pas besoin d\u2019h\u00e9modialyse.<\/p>\n

Ma femme est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9e il y a 25 ans et je n\u2019ai pas d\u2019enfants. J\u2019ai donc d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 une relation tr\u00e8s \u00e9troite avec les m\u00e9decins et les infirmi\u00e8res du Lakeshore. Ils font d\u00e9sormais partie de ma famille \u00e9largie. Je me sens tr\u00e8s bien quand je viens ici. Je sais que je suis entre de bonnes mains, ils m\u2019accueillent tous avec le sourire et prennent tr\u00e8s bien soin de moi. Je plaisante toujours avec la Dre Iqbal et je la fais sourire. Je suis v\u00e9g\u00e9tarien et j\u2019aime cuisiner. Je suis originaire de Mumbai, en Inde, et j\u2019apporte souvent au personnel des plats typiquement indiens faits maison.<\/p>\n

Redonner \u00e0 ma communaut\u00e9, c\u2019est tr\u00e8s important<\/h4>\n

L\u2019\u00e9quipe d\u2019h\u00e9modialyse est formidable et je suis tr\u00e8s reconnaissant pour les excellents soins que je re\u00e7ois. Donner en retour est important pour moi, alors il y a quelques ann\u00e9es, j\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 mettre toute ma petite monnaie dans un bocal et j\u2019ai r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 amasser 1 000 $ que j\u2019ai remis \u00e0 la Fondation de l\u2019H\u00f4pital g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du Lakeshore pour aider \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer le service d\u2019h\u00e9modialyse. Je sais qu\u2019en donnant \u00e0 la Fondation<\/a>, ce n\u2019est pas seulement moi qui b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie de meilleurs soins de sant\u00e9, mais toute la communaut\u00e9 de l\u2019Ouest-de-l\u2019\u00cele. <\/strong><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
